    	abstract = "Physics-based algorithms for sound synthesis have been extensively studied in the past decades. Nevertheless, their use in commercial synthesizers is still limited due to the difficulty in achieving realistic and easily controllable sounds with current technology. In this Engineering Brief we present an overview of the models used in Physis Piano, a digital piano recently introduced in the market with dedicated physics-based algorithms for acoustic piano, electric pianos (e.g. Rhodes, Wurlitzer and Clavinet) and chromatic percussions (e.g. Vibraphone, Marimba, Xylophone). The synthesis algorithms, which are based on standard techniques such as Modal Synthesis and Digital Waveguides, have been highly customized in order to faithfully reproduce the sound features of the original instruments and are easily controllable by a set of meaningful, user-friendly parameters."

    	abstract = "This paper presents a new deterministic algorithm for the creative morphing or hybridization of two sounds, for use in movies and videogames sonification, experimental music composition or creative sound synthesis. The algorithm is based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) filter banks, for sound decomposition, and one IDWT filter bank where a mix of the DWT coefficients streams is transformed back in the time domain for output. The use of the DWT for this purpose proves more computationally efficient than stochastic methods while more perceptually oriented than DFT because of its nonuniform time-frequency decomposition and introduces less control parameters. The addition of an onset detection algorithm in the wavelet domain helps creating dynamic morphing. A Pure Data implementation of the algorithm has been performed to investigate the problem of controlling the morphing parameters with physical interfaces such as touch sensitive screens."

    	abstract = "Today the Chinese theory of the Yin and Yang principles is well known in western countries, often in its philosophical aspects. However, in the far east it has been used for millenia to explain and solve pragmatic problems. Notwithstanding its fuzzy and holistic nature, the Yin Yang theory has already been successfully applied to the analysis of physical and biological systems. In this paper, the theory is extended to the field of acoustic signals and their time-frequency representation, allowing for a simple yet functional way to analyze, discuss and formalize various aspects of sound, accessible to experts and non-experts. The framework can also have application on synthesis algorithms, generative music and music therapy. Two high-level features for automatic analysis are proposed based on MPEG-7 low-level descriptors and future scenarios to assess sound properties and their effect on human subjects are discussed."

The Clavinet has a peculiar excitation mechanism, relying on a tangent striking the string.
