Wave Field Synthesis and Analysis

In the last decades there has been an increasing interest in acoustic field auralization. The resulting reproduction systems are designed to produce sounds as realistic as possible, so that the listener does not notice that it has been produced artificially. However, conventional systems are designed in order to obtain the optimal acoustic sensation in a particular position of the listening environment (the so called sweet spot). To overcome these problems research efforts have focused on a new reproduction technique directly based on Huygens principle, Wave Field Synthesis (WFS), allowing sound fields synthesis through loudspeaker arrays. Similarly, Wave Field Analysis (WFA) implements sound field recording techniques based on microphone arrays.
