LEONARDO GABRIELLI - Research Fellow

Born in 1986, I received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Electronics Engineering at the Università Politecnica delle Marche, Italy, respectively in 2008 after a thesis in Software Engineering developed at Intel, Germany and in 2011 (summa cum laude) after a thesis developed under the supervision of Prof. Vesa Välimäki at the Aalto University of Finland in physical audio signal processing. In 2011, together with other colleagues I won a research prize from Telecom Italia for an innovative water monitoring system. After winning eCapital 2012, a seed funding competition from Fondazione Marche I co-founded DowSee Srl, a university spin-off company providing innovative Energy Harvesting and Monitoring Wireless Network solutions.

In 2015 I got the PhD degree at Università Politecnica delle Marche. Since 2016 I have been teaching Sound Design and Digital Music Processing for the Computer Music Production course at the same university.

I am currently a Postdoc researcher at the A3Lab group. My research topics include:

  • Physics-based sound synthesis

  • Wireless Networked Music Performance

  • Deep Learning for Physical Modeling

  • Virtual Analog modelling of Modular Synthesizers

  • Road classification from acoustic signal for automotive applications

I am author or co-author of more than 30 papers and 3 patents. I have been invited speaker for ISTD 2017 and CIM 2018.

I am scientific director for Acusmatiq Festival since 2013 and I am founder of the cultural association Acusmatiq-MATME. I have been chair for several roundtables with the Italian music industry, the last taking place at the Temporary Museum of the Italian Synthesizer.
